The Cambridge School Classics Project has long been supported by a range of experienced teachers and Classicists, whose help and advice have been invaluable to us. The aim of our Amici initiative is to make the expertise of these people more widely available to Classics teachers.

How can the Amici help?

We expect our Amici to receive a wide range of questions from teachers, but some examples may include:

  • How can I teach the CLC effectively in a really short space of time?
  • My students haven't grasped this grammar point yet — should I be worried? How might I teach it differently to help them?
  • Can you give me some ideas on different ways to approach a story?
  • What are the most important things about using the CLC to prepare students for GCSE?
  • The stories in this stage are really long; where do I start? How do I keep the students engaged?
  • How do you teach vocabulary effectively?
  • What are the most useful ways to use the DVD?

Who are they?

Our Amici are a group of highly experienced Latin and Classics teachers from a wide variety of backgrounds, including:

  • Teachers who have specialised in delivering the Cambridge Latin Course for over twenty years
  • Succesful non-specialists who have moved into Latin from MFL teaching
  • Heads of Department with experience of growing Latin from nothing
  • Teachers at the beginning of their careers, but already successfully establishing Classics in their school curriculum
  • Authors of the CLC and its supporting materials
  • CSCP trainers
  • Teachers in non-selective, high pupil premium schools
  • Those with experience of teaching off-timetable or in a short timeframe
  • Teachers experienced with all available KS4 Latin qualifications from both OCR and Eduqas (WJEC)

Please note: all of our Amici are volunteers who are generously donating their time and experience to help other teachers. They do not receive payment and are not CSCP employees.

How do I contact them?

The Amici are intended to act as mentors and advisors to support teachers of all levels and situations. If you have a question, or want some advice, then please email amici@cambridgescp.com

On receipt of your email, a member of the team here at the Cambridge School Classics Project will forward it to the amicus/amica that they think is best placed to help you.

You will then get an email response from your amicus/amica offering their advice and guidance. You can then reply directly to them with any further questions.
