The wait for the 5th edition is over...

We are delighted to announce that Book I and II of the 5th edition of the Cambridge Latin Course are now available to purchase.

The new CLC:

  • was written in collaboration with teachers with feedback sought at every stage.
  • is still rooted in language acquisition research with the reading method at its heart.
  • has a cast of both familiar faces and new characters with revamped storylines.
  • contains up to date academic research and better supports students in developing skills of historical investigation.
  • has been fully endorsed by both Eduqas and OCR.

CLC 5th edition events

To celebrate the publication of Book I, we hosted a free online Launch Event and an autumn Twilight Series, both exploring the new features and pedagogy of the textbook. You can now watch these events online for free below.

Great, how do I buy it?

The CLC is published by Cambridge University Press; have a look at their Latin Hub for sample packs and information. You can also make online purchases directly from CUP.

The books are also available via all usual sales channels, including our friends at the Hellenic Book Service (who also have lovely plastic covers to keep your books looking neat).

What about digital resources?

Included with each hard copy of the student book is five year's access to a digital e-reader version of the texbook. Access to the e-reader version can be purchased separately from the hard copy book.

CSCP will continue to produce and distribute a wide range of digital and ancillary materials, many of which will continue to be completely free including:

  • teacher guidance
  • story explorers
  • digital activities
  • vocabulary checker and dictionary.

Over time we will be developing extra resources such as video and audio materials, supplementary stories and exercises, assessments and more customisable learning tools and environments. These will be available via subscription in due course but not immediately, as we are prioritising the free materials to make sure that everyone using the CLC has a good foundation on which to build. We hope you will continue to support us as we work to create a library of resources and options for your classrooms.

Is there a print version of the Teacher Guide?

The new Teacher Guide contains an extensive introduction which explains the underlying pedagogy of the CLC and offers advice on curriculum planning, as well as detailed Stage by Stage guidance. The Guide includes advice on how to teach aspects of the language and culture, as well as links to supporting resources.

The Guide is available on our website MyCLC.co.uk but for those who prefer to own a hard copy, these can be purchased from the online retailer Amazon.

Keep in touch!

Two years ago we launched our Cambridge Latin Community panel, an online forum for sharing new CLC content and materials with our Latin teaching community. Panellists have given us invaluable feedback during that time, and helped us shape the future of the textbook. We are keen to have a wide range of individuals and views represented on our panel, and there are still places available. If you would like to apply, click the button below.

Sign up to our mailing list for updates about everything we do, including all the latest information about the CLC, training and events.

The CSCP Blog is also a good place to keep up to date with the latest news on the 5th edition. We recently published a new series called CLC: Past and Present, which looks back over the history of the textbook and forward to the new edition.

Finally, if you have any questions about the new CLC or any of our work please do contact us.
